Antigua Sailing Week day 4 - Lay Day at Pigeon Beach + Video

Antigua Sailing Week 2012 - Layday at Pigeon Beach Louay Habib
At the 2012 Antigua Sailing Week, after three days of scintillating race action on the sublime waters of the leeward side of Antigua, well over a thousand people gathered at Pigeon Beach for Lay Day.

The quarter-mile of white sand was brimming with local vendors barbequing chicken, lobster and fish and a fair amount of Carib Beer and English Harbour five year old rum was consumed during the day and into the night. Pigeon Beach was the perfect place to unwind and go for a swim after a big night at the Ky-Mani Marley concert the previous evening. For the more energetic, stand up paddle boarding, rowing with the Sea Cadets and dinghy racing with Antigua’s National Sailing Academy were all on offer.

Beach cricket was a very popular pastime and was highlighted by the participation of famous Antiguan cricketers Sir Vivian Richards, Curtly Ambrose and Kenny Benjamin. The gorgeous Carib girls also joined in the fun. Music from DJs Purist and Stiffla played into the evening ensuring a great night was had by all.

Today racing continues at Antigua Sailing Week and it looks like it could be a tricky shifty day on the water. The forecast breeze is just south of east and a moderate 12 knots is likely. After three days of lively conditions, this may well suit the smaller yachts at Antigua Sailing Week, especially those that are more agile and able to tack on every shift. Spotting the changes in wind direction and reacting to them will be a key to success today.

If you missed the Ky-Mani Marley concert or the Lay Day activities on Pigeon Beach what can we say - except that you missed two great events!
