On the occasion of the Europe Class A Championship organized by the Cercle de Bordeaux sailing on Lake Carcans-Maubuisson CupLegends.com caught up with Dean Barker who answered Ludovic Sorlot's questions.
Dean Barker - Day 3: A-class Catamarans European Championship, Bordeaux, France
Q: Beaten after an incredible return of American during the last America's Cup, we asked him how he felt after this terrible defeat.
Barker:We were extremely disappointed but the game was tight. Now we must focus on our next challenge in 2017. It was not a psychological defeat. Americans have made ??mistakes in the beginning they knew quickly corrected mainly by improving upwind where it was difficult for us to come and make a difference. It was a tough loss for us. We really thought we would win. We must learn to navigate forward again and even better.
Q: Where are your relations with Grant Dalton after the words exchanged after the Match?
Barker: Our relations are good. Grant has done a fantastic job with sponsors to enable us to build a strong challenge. Finding money is not an easy job.
Q: And you prefer to Brad Grant (Butterworth)? [Butterworth widely criticized Grant Dalton after the defeat to Oracle. It is proposed to resume his post.]
Barker: Dean laughs. 'This is a false debate. We have a new board and reiterated Grant in office. The team is now renovated with strong personalities who will help us move forward.'
Q: Russell Coutts has recently proposed the challengers have the opportunity to build a second boat? What do you think?
Barker: It's hard to say. If you break your boat actually is necessary to have a second boat in reserve.
