Alton Water Cadet Open Meeting 2011 was held over the weekend of 25th and 26th June.

Counting four victories, Mary Henderson and Lulu Knott are winners of the inaugural event. Leading overnight, they reinforced their position with another bullet in the first of Sunday’s two races and then made it a full set by winning the final race.
Second place went to Annie Knott and Lucie Offord sailing 8432 Trident. They made the perfect start winning Saturday’s first race and followed this up with a second and two thirds for a nett total of nine points. Four points behind in third place were Oliver Palierakis and Robert Keen in 7495 Salt Air, with Emma and Josh White fourth in 9876 Zest, with 15 points.
Top Alton Water boat was 8521 Gnat, sailed by Alex Page and Richard Townley. Sunday’s lighter winds suited them, scoring a second and a fourth. Together with a sixth and seventh from Saturday, their total of 19 points gave them fifth place overall and first Under 14. Second in the junior category were Francesca Ingall and Eve Turnpenny in 8372 Chase The Ace, with Scarlett Anderson and Rhiannon Williams third in 9083
Eleven teams entered the event with visitors from Corinthian Otters, Fishers Green, Salcombe and Waldringfield. Saturday’s breezy conditions were followed by a less windy day on Sunday. Five races were sailed with four to count. Prize giving commenced with Squadron Captain Stephen Page receiving Alton Water’s International Cadet Class Squadron Charter. Prizes were sponsored by School Councils UK and First Cadet.com and presented by Claire Bridge, Chair of the UKNCCA.
