Mark Orams - 2013 NZ Paper Tiger Nationals - AEE Sportscam video Colin Preston

Join Mark Orams on Race 1 of the Paper Tiger Nationals, held off Maraetai Beach Auckland earlier this year, as viewed from bow and boom mounted AEE Sportscam cameras.

Mark went on to be the 2013 Veterans National Champion with all manoeuvres recorded for post-race review/training as seen in this edited picture in picture video showing the action simultaneously from both cameras.

These waterproof cameras have several different brackets to mount them almost anywhere on your boat to capture all the crew and boat action for training purposes or as a great record of the race or regatta.

A remote control to control the video and take photos is great to record what and when you want without having to touch it. Centring up the camera shot is made easier when setting up with the added advantage of the laser pointer along with other features which can be seen on the Sportscam website.

The advantages of capturing sailing video for training purposes is best summed up by Mark Orams:

'Onboard video footage provides a valuable source of information for performance analysis, particularly for the many sailors who do not have the benefit of an independent coach.

'Self-coaching is challenging, but a worthwhile approach to improving sailing performance and it is the most practical option for most sailors. The ability to see yourself sailing through reviewing onboard video footage can be used to identify areas for potential improvement. Often I don't realise what I am doing in terms of technique, set-up and movement until I actually have the opportunity to see myself on the video.'

'This opportunity is great to establish a list of work ons for my next sailing session and can lead to the small gains needed to create a winning advantage. This is a great way to for an old dog to teach himself new tricks!'
