A-Cat Europeans- Ashby takes title as Australia clean-sweeps medals

by Richard Gladwell Sail-World.com/nz on 29 Jun 2014 Emirates Team NZ's Glenn Ashby (AUS) has won the Open European Championship for the Int A-class catamarans sailed at Cercle Voile Bordeaux, France.

Australian sailors Jason Waterhouse and Steve Brewin placed second and third overall respectively.
Sandro Caviezel (SUI) placed fourth overall and won the European title. Australians took five of the top six places overall in the regatta, but currently none of those sailors are involved in the Australian America's Cup sailing team.

America's Cup skipper, Dean Barker placed eighth overall in the 105 boat fleet, a very creditable performance in just his second regatta in the class, and his first since the introduction of foiling. Volvo Ocean Race skipper, Chris Nicholson (AUS) laced 19th overall.
