505 Pre Worlds Heat 2 Adelaide South Australia
The Pre-World/Australian Championships kicked off with two races in 10 - 15 knots of breeze. Conditions were ideal for the 76 entries as international and interstate competitors continue to familiarise themselves with local conditions. in 10 - 15 knots of breeze.
Heat 1 was won easily by Howie Hamlin and Fritz Lanzinger (USA) with Ebbe Rosenand and Olle Wenrup (SWE) second and Jens Findel and Johannes Tellen (GER) in third place. Ian Pinnell and Steve Hunt were the first British crew to finish in fourth place.
Heat 2 was won by Doug Hagan and Michael Duffield (USA/AUS), with another American pair, Mike Martin and Jeff Nelson second and then the first Australian crew to break into the leading positions, Robin Deussen and Jordan Spencer.
Howie Hamlin and Fritz Lanzinger (USA) were down in ninth place while Ian Pinnell and Steve Hunt (GBR) dropped to 18th. Also out of luck in race two were Ebbe Rosen and Olle Wenrup of Sweden in 19th.
The Australian boats are competing for the National Championship title while gauging themselves against the overseas competitors.
