Global Yacht Racing were proud to take delivery of their new race yacht, the 42 Sport which will be campaigning in various races including the Rolex Fastnet 2009.

The yacht was designed by Isle of Wight company, Stimson Yachts. It was designed with two goals in mind: to perform at the top level in race fleets, and to offer excellent handling to novice sailors.

Global Yacht Racing have put together a core team of five crew with the addition of extra crew for individual races who will race and train over the course of two years in preparation for the Rolex Fastnet 2009. The campaign got off to a great start with the RORA Morgan Cup race which was the crew’s opening race on board the 42.

Racing in Class zero the crew gained a fantastic second in class result. Global Yacht Racing’s Director Andy Middleton has been very pleased with the progress of the yacht so far 'We are exceptionally pleased with the performance and handling of the new boat and are looking forward to seeing the results of forthcoming races including the JP Morgan Round the Island Race and Skandia Cowes Week. The 42 Sport will be the third boat in our fleet, alongside the Beneteau 47.7 and Reflex 38. These yachts have gained good results in races all over the world and we expect the 42 Sport to follow in their footsteps'.

The two year Fastnet campaign will continue with the RORC Channel Race and the Cowes – Cherbourg Race later in the year. After a winter break the team will be back on the Isle of Wight to continue with training and compete in more qualifying races in preparation for the ultimate goal of the tough and demanding Rolex Fastnet Race. Yacht race training is always included as part of the Global Yacht Racing package so that the crews really are primed for racing and involved, rather than being sailed around the race course on a cruising yacht.

Global Yacht Racing are also delighted to announce their relationship with sponsor Caspian Services Inc . The company will be continuing with the title sponsorship of the new 42 Sport. Caspian have previously supported one of Global Yacht Racing’s boats in Cowes Week racing and were excited by the concept of the novice sailor taking on the professional racers in high end race events. Looking at the way the training and races have gone so far it looks like this will prove to be a rewarding project for them to be involved with.

Global Yacht Racing will be competing in the following races:

JP Morgan Round the Island Race
Cork Week
Skandia Cowes Week
Rolex Middle Sea Race
ARC
Rolex Sydney – Hobart
Antigua Race Week
BVI Regatta
Heineken Regatta
