US$20,000 prize for Phang Nga Bay Regatta
by Event Media/Sail World Asia on 12 Feb 2008
The Phang Nga Bay Regatta ended on a high note, with strong northeasterly winds blowing the fleet across from Phi Phi to Phuket.
For next year's event, principal sponsor Purvarana Resorts has announced a first prize of US$20,000, and round-the-world air tickets for “the winner of three events on the same boat”. No doubt this will change the nature of the regatta a bit, and get some hard-and-fast racers involved. Although quite how to decide an “overall winner” from among six different classes is something to tax the imagination.
