Bic O'pen at Nelson Yacht Club: Chilling before showtime Paul Hufflet
Nelson Yacht Club hosted the 2015 New Zealand South Island O’pen Cup (unofficial).
NYC held the O’pen BIC class event alongside the Laser 4.7’s, and with a steady 7-11kts blowing through conditions were just right for this small but competitive bunch of youngsters.
Local boy, Henri Hufflett, was provided some serious competition from Burty Meffan on what proved to be an entertaining battle inside Nelson Harbor. It was all even at the top after four races but Burty cruised to victory in the fifth. Unfortunately, Henri had a mix up when trying to adjust his rigging and ended up swimming!
Race 6 was a close battle but Burty, cool under pressure, showed that experience does count and took the final race a few seconds ahead of Henri. Well done Burty!
Louis Schneider showed some good form on the water in his new O’pen BIC, and newbie Ella Holmes with less pre-start swimming will be chomping at the heels of the front runners soon enough.
This new and vibrant junior fleet shows real potential to keep the string of quality New Zealand sailors continuously running.
Results:
1st - Burty Meffan
2nd - Henri Hufflet
3rd - Luis Shneider
4th - Finn Richardson
5th - Ella Holmes
