Welcome back to tropical Singapore, where the concluding day of the Singapore Youth Olympic Festival 2015 dawned with cloudy skies. But the morning rain did not dampen spirits though, as sailors geared up ready for racing and a buzz of positive energy could be felt throughout the boat park.
Singapore is renowned as one of the top sailing destinations. Its combination of light breeze and strong current make it a perfect spot to play out every nuance of sailing skill and strategy if you want to excel.
And all the youth sailors competing here are in the quest of improving their skills. Wind strength, wind shifts, sail trim, current strength and direction, all impact boat speed. The weather influences are combined with the tactical “chess game”, as sailors optimize their position between the racing marks and their opponents.
Over on the windward/ leeward race track, close boat on boat racing was the order of the day. In the double handed 29er the key was good tactics and it was Singapore’s Samuel Neo and Jarold Chia who came up with the goods and secured their spot at the top of the podium.
In the Laser Radial Men’s division Enver, You ruled the waves with a faultless performance counting only bullets. A similar performance for Tan Li Tong who dominate in Women’s division.
In the RS:4.0 Class it was Ynez Lim that exploit her experience from the RS: One class to add another title in her palmare.
After a wealth of ‘on the water excitement, it was time for the awards ceremony where the winners were recognized and the celebrations got started. It was time to enjoy the moment and relive the memories of an action packed weekend!
