Start Heat 1 - 2015 Queensland Impulse State Championships Marina Hobbs
The 11th Queensland Impulse State Championships were held in variable conditions at the Hervey Bay Sailing Club over the October labor day long weekend.
A record fleet of 23 boats contested the regatta which was held over three days with seven races.
There were several new boats and faces in attendance, with competitors travelling from the central coast of Queensland, south east Queensland, northern NSW and Lake Macquarie to compete in the hotly contested event.
There were four different heat winners from the seven heats contested, with current Impulse Australian Champion, Michael Brown sailing 'Alabama' from the South Lake Macquarie Sailing Club, claiming the honours.
In second place, only two points behind, was David Mann sailing 'Tarfun' from the Port Curtis Sailing Club. In third place was Gary Bellamy sailing 'Mr Plow' from the Teralba Sailing Club on Lake Macquarie.
Handicap honours was taken by Ray Hobbs in his newly launched 'Problem' from Port Curtis Sailing Club, whilst Rebecca Price sailing 'Sparrow' from the Oxley Sailing Club, took out the ladies event.
The Impulse continues to have tremendous growth in fleet sizes and a record fleet is tipped to attend the National Championships to be conducted by the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club, Paynesville, Victoria, over the Christmas/New Year period.
