The setting and weather conditions could not be more perfect for the Swan owners and crew gathered in Cowes for the 2015 edition of the Gazprom Swan European Regatta, which includes the Swan 45 World Championships.

Held biannually since the 1980's, the Swan European Regatta has become a fixure on the ClubSwan calendar. Organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron, together with ClubSwan, the event includes four days of racing and a full programme shoreside which commenced this evening with the skippers briefing, followed by the opening reception at the Royal Yacht Squadron. Rear Commodore Yachting, Jon Perry and ClubSwan Director, Ettore Mattiello, welcomed the guests this evening and declared the official start of the regatta.

The Swan fleet ranges from classic S&S Swan 36s to Swan 68 Titania, divided into two classes, and will have two races daily with the exception of Thursday when the Race Committee has planned a coastal race.

The eight Swan 45s are keen to race against Swan 45 World Champions Earlybird (GER) who will fiercely defend their title. While the new entrants to the Swan 45 Class, Vinga (GER) and T'Ala (GBR), are the wildcards.

Racing commences tomorrow at 1020 BST.
