34 Copa del Rey MAPFRE has officially started today with the first teams confirming their registrations, which on Monday, 3 Aug, will compete in the water for the victory of one of the most important sailing events in the Mediterranean.
With just two days left to the start of the competition of 34 Copa del Rey MAPFRE, the pontoons of Real Club Náutico de Palma are now 80 percent full, as Manu Fraga, Race Director, confirmed this afternoon: 'Tomorrow the pontoons will be a hundred percent full. Now we focus on distributing and organizing the fleet in the harbour so that every boat that arrives finds their place ready.'
During these two days prior to the kick-off in the water, the activity for the organizers focuses on tuning the final details of the event and new staff for reinforcement. As Fraga confirmed, the Real Club Náutico de Palma nearly triples its staff during the Copa del Rey MAPFRE. 'Today is the day that all departments are adjusting and preparing the yacht club to start the regatta on Monday.'
On a sporting level, the peak of activity concentrates in the Race Office, where 70% of the 136 entries have confirmed their registration by submitting the final documentation required. Many of the teams made the most out of the day by having their first contact with the waters of the Bay of Palma even in overcast conditions and light winds.
