Sunday October fourth Del Rey and Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Clubs ran the 15th annual City of Hope Regatta on Santa Monica Bay. The race concluded the Hope Floats weekend, which featured an all-you-can-eat crab feast, paddleboard races, a raffle and auction.
Organizers Nancy Lewis and Sue Artof stated the weekend events raised over $52,000.
The City of Hope is dedicated to finding a cure for cancer and diabetes and recently announced a medical breakthrough in diabetes research using pancreatic islet cells.
Nineteen boats participated; race organizer Norm Perron got eleven Catalina 42's to show up.
As per the racing rules of sailing the wind shut off at the start and was up and down throughout the pursuit start. Mistral, Dan McGanty's Tartan 101 blew away the fleet and claimed line honors. Bruce Bilson's Celerity won Catalina 42 class and Joe Cowan's Cal 36 won cruising.
Catalina 42 skipper Lee Lewis won the Lois Yudovin trophy for raising over $2500 for the race.
