RFBYC SamGilmour, Adam Negri and Storm Brown - 48th Balboa Yacht Club Governor's Cup Youth Match Racing Championship Mary Longpre
2014 Governor's Cup - With the great weather conditions, the Race Committee completed all the matches except the finals, which will happen on Saturday starting about noon. Racing in the finals will be the team from Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Australia led by 2013 winner Sam Gilmour, with Adam Negri and Storm Brown.

In first place after earlier racing, Sam chose to race Will Holz’s team from Chicago Yacht Club and won three races in a row. Sam is rated #25 in the ISAF Match Racing standings. The second series in the Semi-Finals between San Diego Yacht Club’s Nevin Snow and Balboa Yacht Club’s Christophe Killian ended with Nevin’s team winning three of four. Killian will be racing against Holz for third place. Nevin won the 2011 Gov Cup. Both Sam and Nevin will have a chance to join the elite group of racers who have won twice.

That exceptional group includes 1967 and 68 winner Argyle Campbell. Then Andy Rose, Brad Wheeler, (all of BYC) Mike Pinckney, BCYC, Chris Redman, ABYC, Colin Campbell, KHYC, Murray Gordon, RPAYC, Michael Menninger, NHYC, William Tiller, RNZYS have all been repeating winners.

All results but the final four have been decided today. A flotilla of spectator boats will be out to watch the finals tomorrow. The other racers will be able to go out and enjoy being a part of the observers. A repeat of yesterday’s beautiful weather made for some exciting racing today and will probably be the same tomorrow. The support and photo boats had a lot of chop but were able to enjoy a clear view of Catalina with some soft white clouds providing a striking background for spectacular and colorful sails.

Following racing today was a reception for the actual America’s Cup accompanied by Gary Jobson, NBC and ESPN Commentator. Also here was Norbert Bajurin, the Commodore of the Golden Gate Yacht Club and BYC Honorary member. Gary will be out on the water tomorrow joining BYC’s Andy Rose in commentating on the Final Races. This evening, Andy will be interviewing some of the competitors in a Press Conference format.

Final standings for all but the top four teams:
Place - Organization - Team
5 - St Francis Yacht Club - Antoine Screve, James Moody, Nolan Van Dine
6 - B alboa Yacht Club - Ryan Davidson, Brandon Folkman, Gregg Kent
