At the Platu 25 Central European Alp-Cup (CEAC), it was a tough regatta, but 'Superbusi', the Swiss crew leaded by Mathias Bermejo, conquered last act in Mandello del Lario, Como Lake, at the end, winning also the Platu 25 CEAC-Circuit (7th-8th September).
2013 Central European Alp Cup - Swiss crew dominate
This year 'Superbusi' literally dominated the 2013 Alp Cup edition, winning right away the CEAC first and second Act in Germany and in Austria last May. Just in Brunnen, Switzerland, one week ago, 'Superbusi' had to be content with a third place, overtaken by a very competitive 'Ursa Minor', a Swiss boat owned by Andreas Karalis, a Greek match race expert recently moved to Switzerland, and 'B52 Conquest' also a very competitive boat that won the CEAC 2012.
So an exciting challenge between 'Superbusi' and 'Ursa Minor' was expected in this fourth and last act. After six very competitive races in Mandello del Lario, Como Lake, where the last CEAC Act took place from the seventh to the eighth of September, Bermejo could gain the higher step of the podium, followed by 'B 52 Conquest' helmed by Marlon Walter and owned by Felix Dorn, and by 'Ursa Minor' helmed by Markus Sigrist and with Luca Gerig at bow. In the general ranking list of the CEAC, 'Superbusi' is first, Ursa Minor, second and 'B52 Conquest' thirst.
During two days, pretty difficult marked out by a shifty and tricky wind from South (named Breva), sixteen Platu 25 took the regatta field between Abbadia Lariana and Mandello del Lario. In the first race 'Superbusi' didn't make a very brilliant debut, just as 'Ursa Minor' started with a first place. But from the second race 'Superbusi' found again its competitiveness with a first place. On Sunday there was also a strict challenge between the two Swiss crews, but 'Superbusi' placed two brilliant second and a first, whereas 'Ursa Minor' had to pay an OCS in the last race.
In Mandello the Central European Alp-Cup winning boat is composed by Mathias Bermejo (skipper) and all his tactics: Erich Buholzer (Main), David Erismann (Genoa), André Ochsenbein (Piano) and Roland Kunz (Bow). Futher two crew members were also significantly involved in the winning of the CEAC 2013, sailing in the team in the other Acts: Markus Rindlisbacher (Piano) and Samuel Rigert (Piano/Genoa).At second place the German 'B52 Conquest', followed by the Swiss 'Ursa Minor'.
As Mathias Bermejo remarked, it was a very brilliant year for 'Superbusi' crew: 'We started well in Langenargen in Germany and in St. Lorenz in Austria last May. After a third place in Brunnen, we needed a good run at the last Act in Mandello. The lead in this act changed many times from Ursa Minor to Superbüsi and back. But in the last races we could improve a lot in terms of strategy and speed, resulting in good places (2nd,2nd,1st) leading to the win of the cup. With three wins and a third place in the CEAC we look back to a very exciting year. Consider that I am sailing with a very experienced crew.
The crew rarely makes mistakes in manoeuvers, they are always working together, discussing the wind shifts and tactical options and optimizing the sailtrimm. Even with a bad start, they don't lose their nerves, but they help to get back in the race. So I can relax and concentrate only on the speed, just knowing they are making good decisions. At this place we want to thank to all the people and sponsors, who helped to organize this edition of the CEAC, which was again a very good event.'
Their sailing philosophy has never changed: slow but constant growing, always working for real and makeable goals and the most important: to carry on to having fun. Following these simple life principles, they won two Alp-Cup editions, in 2011 and now.
Fourth place in Mandello is for the Italian 'Bambolina' helmed by Michele Molfino. Good performance is also for the Swiss 'Tajo' helmed by Phillip Meyer, an expert sailor who made his debut on a Platu 25 a few months ago and who showed his talent during 2013 Alp-Cup. That's for sure a boat to keep under observation in next International Platu 25 appointments. Meyer concluded fifth in Mandello and fourth in the Final Ranking List, followed by Italian 'Pirillina' helmed by Claudio Fasoli.
For the first place, main-Sponsor 'Veleria Montefusco Sails' supported the seventh Central European Alpen Cup 2013 with one new sail (Genua X-light) and one voucher of 50% on a new set Platu 25 sail. From second to fifth place, main-Sponsor, FSE-Robline offered a set of high quality racing ropes customized for the Platu 25.
As Günther Prummer, President of the APCA and co-founder of the race series, lined out: 'The Central European Alp-Cup in is seventh year fulfil the expatiations for excellent sailing races in the most attractive team one design boat. As well the sailing conditions with 90% (25 of 28) of completed races and the almost perfect acting race committees guarantee high quality sport venues. Not to forget the nice side events in a terrific alpine area.
With our long-term sponsors we can present very powerful prices for the overall winners. Next year we want to give the cup some new features, for example to force the national challenge'.
All over these seven years, thanks to the Central European Alp Cup, the Alpine area became a nerve centre for the Platu 25 International Platu 25 class. The CEAC indeed is gathering crews from four different Countries: Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Italy. The central and strategic position of this area carries on assuring a big participation of Platu 25 crews from all over Europe IV Act Ranking List, after four regattas and one discard:
