The final day of the 15th Musto Etchells Australasian Winter Championship is due to start at 10.00am today.
Out on the ocean racecourse the breeze appears steady at 8- 10 knots, the sky is overcast. However the clouds are breaking up and patches of sun light are shining through - the promise of a good day. With much of the east coast of Australia caught in the grip of a very cold snap, today is definitely a day to rug up.
In the history of the Winter Championship, no skipper has ever won the event twice. With defending Champion, New Zealand’s Alastair Gair unable to compete this year after a last minute problem, the championship is still wide open.
With the drop to come into play today (assuming racing happens), it is still a guess as to who the 15th Musto Etchells Australasian Winter Champion will be.
Tom King (Iron Lotus) is leading the championship, however Damian King (Barry), the 2009 champion, will be a close second once his BFD from yesterday is dropped.
Etchells are currently heading out of the Mooloolah River and onto the course for the start of race 5 of the series.
Is 2011 the year a dual winner will be named? Stay tuned for all the action.
