The wind could not make up its mind but the fans massed on the docks of the Bassin de l’Eure were sure: the prologue of the 13th edition of the Transat Jacques Vabre was a big and beautiful show with frenzied crossing tacks in 8 to 18 knots under ever-changing skies.

After the pool stages raced in J80 boats, the semi-finals and the grand final were held in Diam 24s, a lively trimaran that the Le Havre crew on Région Normandie Junior Senior by Enernex had mastered perfectly.

Région Normandie Junior Senior by Enernex, Edmond de Rothschild, and Ex-aequo Aïna Enfance et Avenir et Des Voiles et Vous finished up on prologue podium. What a battle! The sailors gave the public a day of classic jousts and the final in Diam 24s proved that these long-distance skippers are also masters of round-the-cans racing. Defending the honour of their city, the crew of Le Havre won the prologue from right under of the nose of a fiendishly tenacious Edmond de Rothschild. It was a nice appetiser before they return to the water on Sunday, November 5 for the start the Transat Jacques Vabre.

A surprise guest for the official opening of the race village

The Transat Jacques Vabre race village was officially inaugurated this morning at 11:00 (French time). Alongside Luc Lemonnier, mayor of Le Havre and president of CODAH, Xavier Mitjavila, president of JDE, Marie-Agnès Poussier-Winsback, vice-president of the Normandy region and Nicolas Hénard, president of the French Sailing Federation, Edouard Philippe, former mayor of Le Havre and current prime minister of France arrived to offer his support. Together, they made the traditional cut of the ribbon so that the party could begin.
