RPAYC wins the Marina of the Year Award

by Brendan Rourke on 7 Aug 2017 On Monday evening over 300 of the industry's finest gathered at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Sydney for the Marina of the Year Awards dinner, where The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club was announced as the Club of the Year. The awards recognise excellence and leadership across the marine industry and provide valuable benchmarks for industry and the wider community. The presentation of the awards is incorporated in to the biennial marina and boating industry conference, Marine 17, which is a three day which kicked off on Sunday.

In accepting the Award, RPAYC General Manager, Suzanne Davies said, 'All RPAYC members will be very proud of this award. I am very proud of the team I work with who are responsible for delivering the high standards and service that enabled us to achieve this Award'. Simon McLean, CEO of Club Marine, Awards partner commented later that, 'The RPAYC is very deserving winner of the award, and we are proud of our association with both the RPAYC and the Marina Industries Association'.

The applause from the audience was rapturous as the 300+ attendees celebrated with the Club which has been a finalist in the category for the last few years. The RPAYC is one of the country's largest yacht clubs and has a comprehensive racing, cruising and training program. The club invests heavily in the promotion of the sport introducing over 600 children a year to the sport through its various sail training programs.

The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club is in the midst of celebrating its Sesquicentennial year which will conclude on Sunday 15 October, when the Club will conduct a commemorative race followed by a Garden Party and fireworks spectacular over Pittwater. RPAYC Commodore Michael Lockley was competing in the Sydney to Gold Coast Race and was unable to be present for the presentation, but phoned in saying, 'I'm incredibly proud of the team and of our great club. Our members and visitors are fortunate not only to have such a wonderful facility, but also a very dedicated and service driven professional team to look after our members and the marina. Well done team, I am toasting you from Southport!'

Marine17 concluded on Tuesday and many across the industry now turn their focus to the 50th Sydney International Boatshow which kicked off on Thursday at Darling Harbour and the ICC.
