Santiago and Cosima lead on Day 1 of Optimist European Championship

First day of the European Championship of Optimist in Burgas with two races completed for the 262 participating sailors (154 boys and 108 girls) from 44 countries.

The race was declared open, with the participation of countries such as Argentina, USA, Japan, Russia, Honk Kong, Ukraine and others.

Good wind conditions with 15 knots on the first race, to finish at about 20 knots of East component.

Santiago Palkin, from Argentina, is the provisional Boys' general leader with two first positions. Second place is for the Turkish Can Erturk (2-1) with three points, followed by the Polish Igor Kuczys with the same points.

In Girls category, Cosima Schlueter (Germany) 2-1 is leading with three points, the same as the Argentine Donna Mazzuecchelli (1-2). The provisional podium closes Asli Akbeniz (Turkey) with five points.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2, the second qualification day will take place with two races planned.
