Riva Cup and International 14’ European Championships overall

An extraordinary edition of the Riva Cup reserved to the classes 505, Korsar and Dyas has just concluded in Riva del Garda.

The event, organised by Fraglia Vela Riva, took place at the same time of the International 14’ European Championships. It is a pity that the bid submitted by Fraglia Vela Riva for the 505 World Championships in 2018 failed against Poland, considering the show of this Riva Cup’s edition.

Beautiful sunny days with 20-knot wind made the 2017 Riva Cup unforgettable, which was already remarkable thanks to the participation of 115 boats from the classes 505, Korsar, Dyas and International 14’. Despite being organised by an Italian club, i.e. Fraglia Vela Riva, Italian sailors has never taken part in this event, since the admitted sailing classes are almost unknown at Italian level. However, Fraglia Vela Riva is proud to organise also those events that go beyond national traditions, allowing everybody to enjoy the amazing conditions regularly offered by Garda Trentino.

Int. 14’ European Championships
Wide leaps divided the top three fast and impressive skiffs of the International 14’ class, which had some difficulties in sailing with the strong wind and the short and steep waves of Lake Garda: the victory went to the British Jones-Fitzgerald, who after 11 races outdistanced the German Borkenstein-Dietrich by five points. It was a hard start (dsq and dns) for the other British couple Partington Andy and Tom, who improved race by race managing to finish on third place overall, despite the 10-point lead from the second place.

5O5

Forty-five boats sailed in the beautiful 505 regatta fleet with an impressive show of sprinklers of water and (literally) thrilling glides. Despite a couple of low-key races (13-12), the mixed American crew Holt-Smit won five points ahead of the American Hamlin-Nelson. The German Dr Hunger-Kleiner placed third.

Korsar
Hard-won victory in the Korsar class for the German Oberemm-Linnemann just two point ahead of Troetschel-Kruck. Wiedemann Francesco and Elias follow on third place, who fought against Mahnke-Fischbach for the podium.

Dyas
There was no contest in the victory of the eight races sailed by the Dyas class: Linke-Malcher took the title with a race to spare with 10 points ahead of Bersch-Schmidt, who gave it a go with Borja-Elfert, placed third.
