Port Credit In Water Boat Show Heather Robertson
The Port Credit In-Water Boat Show celebrates its 24th year at the Port Credit Harbour Marina – September 12-14th (note new dates). The only show of its kind on Lake Ontario, the Port Credit Boat Show is the early fall boat show to attend.

Walk the docks and view over 100 new and USED power and sailboats showcased by yacht brokers and dealers from the Port Credit Harbour Marina, Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Pickering, and Muskoka.

Boaters looking for a power boat, large, small, pleasure or fishing boat, will find such respected brands as Sea Ray, Crownline, Chris-Craft, Edgewater, Chaparral, Hatteras, Monterey Boats, and the elegant Sabre Yachts and Beneteau powerboats. Sail boaters will find slips with sailing vessels from Hunter, Dufour, Beneteau, Bavaria, Hanse, JBoats, Jeanneau, and Delphia.

Boaters, who have a specific boat in mind can seek out the expertise and advice of one of the local yacht brokers who are able to source and import boats world-wide.

New boaters can try their hand at boating courtesy of Humber Sailing and Powerboating Centre who will be holding free sailboat rides on a Hunter 31 Sailboat. Humber College offers on-the-water sailing and power boating courses in the summer and boating theory classes in the winter. It’s like boating all year round.

But the Port Credit In-Water Boat Show isn’t just boats. There are numerous land displays of marine accessories and services form marine insurance to sailing schools to canvas shops. And it’s shop ‘til you drop for boating equipment including Sperry Topsiders, Gill Clothing, electronics and more.

A regular show feature is The Show Speaker’s Tent sponsored by Informedboater.ca. Seasoned boater Rob MacLeod gathers a stellar roster of great speakers who share their stories about ‘Livin’ the Dream’. New this year is the showing of ‘Shipwrecked on a Great Lake’ directed by Port Credit’s own Peter Rowe. Set during the War of 1812, it is an account of the battles between the British and the USA through the eyes of Ned Meyers as told to James Fenimore Cooper. The movie airs Saturday afternoon. Rowe will be available to discuss the making of the film.

There will be lots of great treasures when visiting The Show’s Consignment tent of gently used and hard to find boating equipment. A long time show feature, monies raised are donated to Ontario Sailing, a provincial organization in support of boating.

And while boaters are contemplating their new purchase, they can sip beer in the Great Lakes Brewery Refreshment Tent. Great Lakes Brewery, Toronto’s original craft brewery returns as a sponsor for the show. Winner of the People’s Choice, Ontario Brewing Award, GLB are well known for their Orange Peel Ale, Farmhouse Ale and Red Leaf Lager.

Tinkling the ivories, in the refreshment tent will be Mississauga’s own Bill Springate. Bill covers a broad range of musical types from the fifties through to current music including – Pop, Pop Classics, R&B, Soul, Motown, Reggae, Country and Jazz. This year Bill plans to bring his Karaoke machine – for an hour or two of sea shanties.

The 24th show is shoring up to be another great Port Credit event and another great boat show with lots of boats, great exhibitors, great, new features... in fact it’s an entire weekend of finding out why life is better with a boat.
