The Outremer shipyard in La Grande Motte in the South of France have just launched the successor to the award winning Outremer 49, with the arrival of the new Outremer 51 which will be debuted at the Cannes boat show in France on the 10th of September.

The Outremer 49 was a ground breaking design when it was launched in 2009 and subsequently went onto win the European Yacht of the Year in 2010. The innovative concept of the 49 remains, however the new 51 brings a raised level of refinement with a new interior design, external design and performance upgrades.

Interior design is by Franck Darnet, responsible for the interior of the Outremer 5X that won European Yacht of the Year in 2013. The interior features a new array of luxury finishes, fittings and layouts that Franck Darnet has become renowned for, yet maintaining the focus on light weight fitout that Outremer insist upon to maintain high performance. The new interior layout promotes more interior space thanks to clever new ergonomic configurations including a new galley, nav-station and saloon design.

Other features of the new 51 also include an extended hull with a larger boarding platform on the transom steps, new styling of the hull and coachroof and a new fiberglass hardtop over the cockpit.

The famous carbon tillers and helm seats that Outremer are famous for remain, as does the performance which continues to outrun the competitors thanks to a strict weight monitoring regime throughout the manufacturing process that has the Outremer 51 weighing in at just 10 ton.

The entire boat features closed cell foam core, while resin infusion is applied throughout the fiberglassing process to ensure weight savings and rigidity are maintained. Optional carbon fiber bulkheads are offered, as are carbon rotating rigs for those seeking pure performance. Many are happy with the 10 plus knot performance already achievable on the standard Outremer 51 package.

One reseller, Brent Vaughan, is excited by the new launch, 'After sailing the Outremer 49 at the Outremer Cup and feeling first hand the acceleration and speed of close to 20 knots that a very comfortable cruising boat can offer, the Outremer 51 promises to be a nice refinement of this concept and one that experienced sailors will appreciate.'

The new Outremer 51 starts from approx. $895,000 ex factory in France (excluding taxes). A special demo boat package is also currently available.
