Miami Boat Show - Truly exceptional reception for Balance

by Balance Catamarans on 28 Feb 2015
Balance 451 Balance Catamarans
At the Miami Boat Show the reception of the Balance 451 was truly exceptional. Our number three hull on display, in American Cherry with teak and holly floors drew rave reviews. We were especially pleased to host our builder, Lee Xianang, who came over from China to meet with our new customers and learn a bit more about the American yacht market.

It was Lee's first visit to America and we had a blast showing him a bit of our country and culture. TMC broker Jeff Jones explained to Lee and his family that Miami Beach is more or less perfectly representative of America - all night parties, limo's with movie stars, pink Ferrari's, barely clad men and women riding beach bikes, etc. Lee is now on his way to Key West which will further support Jeff's thesis. I suppose the idea of 15 feet of snow in Boston did not seem like a good holiday idea for Lee and his family.

Lee had an interesting time in Miami, shuttling back and forth from the power boat show to the sailboat show. At the power boat show he met with the owners of Arrow Cat Marine, for whom he builds a range of power cats, including the popular Arrow Cat 30 that travels at over 45 knots. Lee has built over 50 of these fine power cats at his factory in Guandong province, Startown Marine, which, like the Balance 451, were designed and engineered by famed New Zealand naval architect Roger Hill.

During the past three years Lee, Roger, and Phil Berman have collaborated in the pursuit of catamaran perfection, pushing the envelope of design and build in their quest to create the 'Audi' of catamarans as Phil likes to put it. From the design phase, to tooling, to the build and finish completion of the first few hulls, the three of them have been joined at the hip. Having Lee come to America, for the first time, was a special treat for all of us at Balance Catamarans and The Multihull Company.
