McConaghy's Ker 46 - Faster!!

by Blue Robinson on 21 Feb 2012
When Ker Design received multiple requests to develop a yacht in the 45 foot range, which would perform well inshore and offshore on IRC and ORCi, they knew they had a formidable prototype to work from - the Ker 46 Tonnerre.

Since it's launch in 2009, Tonnerre has been the outstanding inshore/offshore racing yacht on both sides of the Atlantic and after four years of development in fluid dynamics, composite design and performance data – from this comes the new McConaghy built Ker 46.

The new Ker 46 is a light-displacement, high-performance fully carbon-racing yacht designed to perform to the highest level across a range of conditions in mixed fleet, inshore/offshore races. Following the success of the new McConaghy built Ker 40 - with ten boats now sold - the new Ker 46 is again built to McConaghy’s meticulous standards, using vacuum consolidated carbon/epoxy foam sandwich throughout, with uni-directional fibre reinforcement and lightweight sandwich composites for non structural components - all with plan approval to ISO Category A standards by Germanischer Lloyd.

The new Ker 46 is designed and built without compromise to perform straight out of the box, with a Harken winch package and grinder pedestal, a high-modulus two spreader carbon mast and carbon boom, corecell foam cored rudder, autoclaved prepreg rudder stock, seated nav station, enclosed head surround and twelve pipe cots.

The new Ker 46 combines an extremely high level of design performance history with McConaghy’s outstanding construction and finishing techniques, in a balanced, easily driven, high-performance racing yacht with the proven pedigree to secure the major inshore/offshore regattas worldwide.

Pricing for the new Ker 46 (including deck hardware and Yanmar 40hp diesel engine with sail drive, mast, boom, rigging and Harken Grinder Pedestal is US $659,000 with build slots available for delivery mid 2012.
